This is an outreach program aimed at providing nutritious meals in a dignified manner to homeless and low-income families in our area, regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity. A hot meal is served every Saturday from 5 to 6 PM. Volunteers are always welcome. Started in 1993 by parishioners of Holy Name of Mary parish in Croton-on-Hudson, born from the Cornerstone experience, this ministry has grown to be an ecumenical effort of friendship to the poor of Ossining. Every Saturday night a hot dinner is prepared and served to anyone who comes in at no cost. We have now served over 41,000 meals. |
This outreach project is called Loaves and Fishes, inspired by Christ's miraculous feeding of the multitudes. Aside from the fulfillment each of us feels by worshiping God through service to our brothers and sisters, it is made more wonderful in the fellowship developed between so many of us who are from such different backgrounds, coming together in love for the sake of God.
We are supported through federal grants and the food coupon program at Holy Name of Mary. Trinity Episcopal Church in Ossining provides dining and kitchen space. We have 13 cooking teams including 6 From Holy Name of Mary. We get food donated from Pepperidge Farms in Elmsford as well as parishioners.
Dave and Sandra Ciasca handle the administrative part including writing the grants along with Fran Gennarelli who handles the cooking teams.
