Parish Participation:
- Youth Ministry Update
Beginning September, Dave Tuttle is the new Youth Ministry leader replacing Todd Schmitt. Dave was unable to attend this evening’s meeting. At the October meeting he will give an overview of what has been accomplished over the past year and what events are scheduled to encourage continued participation.
Parish Administrative Update
- Parish Photo Directory Next Steps/Committee
Cheryl Comitto gave an update on the Parish Photo Directory project. We need to get parishioners started on utilizing the new website. Tim Higgins and Mary Obermeier have volunteered to help with the project. Sign-ups will begin in September for the photos to be taken. - Archbishop’s Visit Recap
Archbishop Dolan’s visit was recapped. Carl Barnes brought in some newspaper articles which were passed around to Council. Mike Lavery is in the process of editing the video. Suggested that the Archbishop’s Homily be put on HNM’s website in addition to some highlights of the ceremony. Fr. Mike informed Council that at a function a few days after Archbishop Dolan’s visit to HNM, the Archbishop thanked Fr. Mike for the invitation to HNM parish and told Fr. Mike that the parishioners made him feel welcomed and very happy.
Updates and Discussions:
· Website Update
The website is in good shape. Cheryl will have the announcement that will formally launch the new website put in this week’s Bulletin. The old website will be re-directed to the new site.
Carl Barnes & Don Simons will meet with Laura regarding the data base. Feedback is starting to happen.
· Welcome Ministry Mass June 14th
Sue Andros reported that four (4) new families were welcomed into the parish. There was a good turnout to this event.
· Parish Council Goals & Objectives
- The Liturgy Committee, in partnership with the Parish Council, will oversee the spiritual
programs for the parish. Beginning in September, Fr. Mike will introduce various
programs for Parish Council members to review for possible implementation. It was
suggested that the Advent and/or Lent seasons would be preferable for any retreat /
mission.
- Parish Pay participation will be a large part of the Council’s goals. One-third of the budget
is carried by the Parish Pay. Various other functions to fundraise (i.e. golf outings,
Westchester Broadway Theatre, Summerfest, etc.) were briefly discussed. This year
Summerfest did not lose money but did not bring in as much as in past years.
· Parish Council Nominees
This year there were eight (8) nominees to fill the three (3) vacant slots in the Parish Council. Selected to the 2009/2010 Council were: Tom Condon, Karen Thornton and Debi Braddick. Fr. Mike will contact the new members. Letters will be sent to those who were not selected.
(NOMINEE UPDATE: Since Tom Condon is already a parish trustee, his name
was withdrawn and Andy Mulhall was selected as a replacement.)
The minimum age requirement to be a Council member is 18. Since one of the candidates was under the age limit and did not qualify as a nominee, it was suggested that he be asked to attend the PC meetings as a representative of the Youth Ministry.
· 2009 / 2010 PC Officer Elections
There was a brief review of the Parish Council By-Laws election process. The 2009 /2010 Parish Council Officers voted in are: Carl Barnes - President; Sue Andros – Vice-President; Louise Bartoli – Secretary.
Congratulations to those members leaving the Council and thanks was given for their participation and support.
· Discussion of Ministry Representation & Reports
One additional responsibility has been added to the Vice-President’s role. The Vice-President will be responsible for coordinating the receipt of all Ministry Reports to insure that they are submitted to the Council in a timely manner.
Ministry Reports received for the June meeting were:
Knights of Columbus – email from Patrick DeLasho
Montessori School Report June 2009 – Jeanne-Marie Gagnon
Liturgy – Sue Andros
Religious Education – Regina O’Leary
· Spanish Ministry Update
Since there has been little response to the Sunday 6:00 PM Spanish Mass, a three (3) month grace period will be given to see whether attendance improves. There will be no Spanish Masses held during the month of August.
New Business / Announcements / Discussions
· Parish Council Minutes
It was decided that a draft of the PC meeting minutes be sent to all Council members for their review. Council members will then respond back to the PC Secretary with their approval
–or– with any additions, deletions or corrections to be made to the minutes. Once all responses have been received, the PC Secretary will adjust the minutes accordingly and forward them to Laura for posting on the website.
· Committees
Beginning September, Parish Council is to be more informed regarding various committees. A 15 minute presentation was suggested. The Liturgy Committee will present at the September meeting.
· AED Defibrillator
Tom Faranda reported on the cost of a defibrillator – approximately $1,600 and recommended purchasing one. Fr. Mike agreed and will have one purchased.
· Prophetic Role on Political Issues
There was a brief discussion regarding the prophetic role on political issues (i.e. Pregnancy Care Assistance Program, Death Penalty, Same Sex Marriages, etc.).
· Midnight Run
The next Midnight Runs are scheduled for:
July 31st, August 28th, and September 18th.
Move to Adjourn
Meeting officially concluded at 9:10 pm with the recitation of the Parish Council Prayer.
The next Parish Council meeting will be held in September 2009. The new meeting schedule will be sent to you at a later date.
Respectfully submitted,
Louise Bartoli
Parish Council Secretary
